Is Mobile Marketing The Next Big Thing?

Some of the biggest brands in the world today are leading the way into the era of mobile marketing because of its huge potential in connecting them to more customers. Samsung Mobile, Target and American Express are just but a few of the big brands that have already significantly invested in mobile ad campaigns. The cost of mobile ads is just a small fraction of the amount spent on online ads, yet the mobile ads are up to 2 times as effective. There are many other reasons why this is believed to be the next big thing.
Mobile subscribers in developing countries today are more than 5 billion, but surprisingly only about 25% access internet at home on their PCs or laptops. Big brands are capitalizing on the rapidly growing number of mobile users in emerging markets where most of their future sales are expected to come from. Mobile marketing provides a more direct way of connecting to the billions of users and the big companies are making mobile ads part of their strategies for that reason.
The flexibility of mobile marketing is another important reason why big brands are embracing it. Mobile users are not just getting ads that make use of interactive rich media, but actually most of the ads are based on very simple and traditional tactics of mobile marketing. These old fashioned type of ads may even do well than the flashy ones. For example, a mobile user may simply be required to send a text message containing a simple text code printed on a product so that they can win a prize. This shows that mobile marketing is seeking to start conversations with customers. Communications can either start from the marketers or even from the customers and help build important relationships around the brands involved.
With rapidly increasing spending on mobile marketing campaigns by large companies, many smaller companies are expected to follow this trend. Mobile ads campaigns will lead to many possibilities, but most important will allow businesses of all sizes to use them for competitive advantage. In 2011, experts predicted that the mobile ads market in the U.S. will grow up to 4 times by 2015. This clearly indicates that spending on mobile advertising will grow bigger very soon and perhaps overtake spending on online advertising. Many businesses will definitely want to opt for mobile ads because of their potential for more ROI. So for the question, is mobile marketing the next big thing? The answer is, absolutely yes.
