Chemical test for 3 invisible gases

This is a resource for teachers to remind students of how to identify the three common, invisible gases used in high school laboratories. We have the Hydrogen pop test, The carbon dioxide limewater test and the oxygen test (re-lighting the splint).

This video can be used as part of a class activity in which the reaction of sulfuric acid with calcium carbonate. This produces three products. One is an invisible gas which can be found with the tests shown. The other is a solid, which can be identified by evaporating all the water in the flask and the third product is a liquid which can be found by balancing the chemical equation.
